Joseph Martinez

Joseph Francisco Martinez came into this world on October 5, 1981 in Hayward, Ca. Born to David Martinez and Anna Marie Manzo, A messed up couple that he would barley ever call parents. At the age of 4, after being put into a foster home for a couple of days, he was rescued by his Grandmother and moved into her house that included His Grandfather and Uncle Dave. Getting his own room, he was a Grandma's boy, not wanting to spend to much time out side, but rather spend time watching movies, and listening to music. Shortly after moving in with his Grandparents, he saw the movie La Bamba. The movie about the life of Rock n' Roll Legend Ritchie Valens made him become obsessed with music. That was the only thing he thought about night and day, wanting to learn to play the guitar so bad it hurt. Unfortunately, he was never given the chance because no one in his family ever got him a guitar, and at the age of 10, it seemed that his dreams where doomed to failure. The next years would go on and he would find many other interests, including movies, wrestling, and television show's, but nothing really touched him like music had all those years ago. In his mind he still dreamed of producing his own music, and performing in-front of thousands of people. The one thing he hadn't decided was what kind of music, because he had never really herd a sound that took full control of him, that just shot out his passion for sound. That would come soon enough. After learning to DJ the summer before he went into high school, Joe had finally found a way to express him self through music. The other thing he had noticed was he liked to mix dance music like old school, funk, freestyle, house music, and latin house. Artists like the Stevie B, Confunksion, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Sneaker Pimps, Armin Van Helden where some of his early favorite's. In 1995 or 96 the radio station Wild 94.9 launched a late night show on Friday night's called House Nation, hosted by the charismatic St. John. St. John would eventually become one of the main reason the dance music took over the Bay Area night life in the late 90's and early 2000's. Joe was introduced to Such legendary Bay Area DJ's like David Garcia and Joey Mazzola. He would listen to these guy's play, and then go out a buy some of the tracks he had just herd, so that he could play them when he DJ'd. Mostly playing in his Uncle's bedroom, with the worst of equipment, Joe did his best to make the mixes sound as good as possible, still wanting more, not knowing what he was about to discover. The date was was May 20th, 1999 when everything in life started to make sense to him. He attended his first Massive rave in Oakland at the International Rave Center, Home Base. What he saw was unimaginable, over 10,000 peopled filled the warehouse for the event Metropolis. Over 50 world class DJ's played to the audience as if they where playing a concert. In fact, they where. What Joe had never known, was there was a culture that treated the DJ like an artist. Where the DJ was the main attraction and not just side show. Seeing this filled Joe's heart with hope, and made him believe that this is where he needed to be. ...
